Diversity at McDonough Holland & Allen PCMcDonough Holland & Allen PC, a leading Northern California firm representing both public and private sector clients, has been ranked first in Law360’s listing of the nation’s top 100 law firms with the highest concentration of female partners. "Maintaining a supportive, cooperative environment that places value on diversity has always been a core focus of the culture at McDonough, so we are particularly honored to be the top-ranking firm in this survey,” said Ed Quinn, managing shareholder for the firm. “We whole-heartedly believe our ‘long-term view,’ investing in lawyers throughout the span of their careers, has helped us cultivate a strong female partnership that benefits not only our attorneys and staff, but our clients as well.” Sixteen of McDonough’s 46 partners—nearly 35 percent—are female. McDonough’s numbers significantly exceeded the national average of 19 percent, and the firm was one of only five whose concentration of female partners topped 30 percent. ________________________________ McDonough has a long and successful history of promoting and fostering diversity among its attorneys, as well as its staff. We believe embracing diversity and cultural competency is the key to maintaining an environment that honors “excellence, honesty, integrity and teamwork.” McDonough Holland & Allen PC supports the Sacramento No Glass Ceiling Initiative. As of January 21, 2010:

All employment decisions and other personnel actions will be made solely on the individual’s qualifications and bona fide occupational qualifications for the job in question. When necessary and feasible, McDonough will make reasonable accommodations for disabled employees. To achieve the goals of our Nondiscrimination in Employment Policy, it is necessary that each member of McDonough Holland & Allen PC understand the importance of the Policy and his or her individual responsibility to contribute toward its maximum fulfillment. While our policy statements clearly articulate our commitment, our diverse workforce composition demonstrates the success of our initiatives and commitment towards meeting our policy objectives. From compliance to inclusion, the concept of our workplace diversity is evolving. Our diversity ranges from personality and work style to all of the visible dimensions such as race, sex, and ethnicity as cataloged in the proceeding paragraph. On the recruiting front, we reach out to minority candidates by hiring one first-year law student from the County Bar Association's Minority Hiring Fellowship Program to participate in our summer associate program. A McDonough Board member coordinates the firm’s participation. We also sponsor and participate in the Unity Bar’s annual career forum. By actively participating in these two programs each year, the firm has built a reputation of offering not only diverse legal services but also of offering a diverse workforce to support its services. During the on-campus interviews scheduled for this fall at four California campuses, more than 50% of the students requesting an interview with McDonough are either a woman/and or minority. Once attorneys are fully assimilated into the workforce, McDonough encourages and supports community involvement and outreach in areas of particular interest. As a result, we have many attorneys serving on Boards or in community leadership positions that represent the diverse community the firm operates in. Because we value cultural differences, we fully utilize the talents of all our employees to gain diverse work perspectives. For example, McDonough attorneys serve/or served on the Board of Directors for the Asian Legal Services Outreach, Asian American Justice Center, Asian Bar Association of Sacramento, Asian/Pacific Bar of California, National Asian Pacific American Bar Association, the Sacramento Chinese Community Service Center, The Sacramento No Glass Ceiling Task Force, California Women Lawyers, Japanese American Citizen League, Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, La Raza Lawyers Associations, Hispanic National Bar Association, Families First, Mosaic Law Congregation, and Jewish Community Relations Council just to name a relative sampling. Diversity at McDonough does not necessarily only refer to women and minorities. We recognize different employee groups have different needs and want their needs recognized and met. To support varying needs, each year McDonough assesses whether its benefit offerings fully meet the changing demographics of its workforce. In response to these needs, several years ago the firm expanded its entire benefit offerings to domestic partnerships. We have further added a variety of benefits and events related to our new wellness program, and just this year have added long term care coverage to our benefit package, all at no cost to our employees. |
