McDonough's 2007 Holiday Giving Program

As the spirit of community giving heightens each holiday season, McDonough provides donations to three worthy charities. With hopes of spreading holiday cheer to local families and youth in need, McDonough's 2007 Holiday Giving Program will benefit: FamiliesFirst Foster Santa, The Medical-Legal Partnership for Children, and Society for the Blind.

FamiliesFirst Foster Santa
Located in Davis

Help bring holiday magic to more than 1,000 foster children and other children in need. Remember your first bike? With its shiny paint and gleaming wheels—you just couldn't wait to ride it, couldn't wait to feel the wind in your face and see the road blur beneath your feet.

No one ever forgets their first bicycle, and for kids who've had a rough start in life, a bicycle can be a symbol of a freedom they've never had before. And if that bike comes straight from jolly old St. Nick, it is the gift a child never forgets.

Every year since 1974, FamiliesFirst has hosted "Foster Santa" Parties to bring the joy of a new bicycle to hundreds of children in need. McDonough's donation will allow 50 children to receive new bicycles this holiday season.

The Medical-Legal Partnership for Children
Located in Alameda County

The Medical-Legal Partnership for Children allies pediatric clinicians with lawyers to ensure families can meet their children's basic needs. MLPC (formerly known as the Family Advocacy Program) combines the strengths of law and medicine to address non-biological factors (food, housing, education, and safety) known to influence child health.

Founded at Boston Medical Center and the Boston University School of Medicine in 1993, during the past five years MLPC has helped to spread its model to more than 60 sites across the country, including a new center in Alameda County.

Society for the Blind
Located in Sacramento

Society for the Blind serves thousands of blind and visually impaired people throughout the Sacramento area and surrounding counties. It is the only center in the region that trains blind and low vision people on Braille, life skills, computers and job skills. Their mission is to empower individuals who are blind or have low vision to live productively and independently by building confidence through training, tools and mentorship.

Society for the Blind recently launched its Capital Campaign to renovate a new headquarters. A host of community, business and philanthropic leaders gathered at the site of the future home of Society for the Blind in downtown Sacramento to launch a capital campaign to raise money to renovate an existing building that will become its new headquarters.
